SILVATECH organises its analysis and development services in 3 connected technological clusters, which rely on well-equipped, open units or preparation workshops:

  • Isotopy-chemistry cluster: Linking of standard or isotopic mass spectrometry, chromatography, plasma and elemental techniques coupled with standard of isotopic mass spectrometry, devoted to the isotopic, mineral, molecular through to macromolecular analysis of complex matrices (wood, sap, leaves, soil, water). Fields of application: Dynamics of the metabolites and allocation of the C/N stocks, modelling of the biogeochemical cycles (soil-tree-atmosphere continuum), nature and properties of the secondary metabolites, water use efficiency and accessibility of the water reserves in the soil, nutrient and pollutant dynamics, food web functioning.
  • Imaging-microscopies cluster: High-resolution electronic and confocal imaging, electronic cryomicroscopy, mineral X-ray microanalyses, histology and photonic microscopy. Fields of application: Nutrient/pollutant dynamics in relation to anatomy, ring growth dynamic, wood formation and phenotypical changes via quantitative anatomy, links between microorganisms and trees, biological degradation and deconstruction of the wood, fungus-bacteria interactions, xylem sap transport function, stomatal density.
  • X-ray imaging cluster: computed tomographic scanner, ITRAX, microdensitometry, X-ray diffraction. Fields of application: Spatio-temporal variation in wood density, nutrient/pollutant dynamics, explanatory parameters concerning the mechanical and physical properties of wood in relation to the anatomy and the macromolecules of the wood (mainly cellulose).
