10 February 2021 - FARE gains access to high-level facilities through IBISBA

The COCULTURE project submitted during the 4th call for IBISBA (Industrial Biotechnology Innovation and Synthetic Technology Accelerator) project funded by the HORIZON H2020 project has been accepted within UMR FARE.

IBISBA provides a coordinated network of research facilities to promote R&D in bioprocess development and support the bioeconomy. The facilities cover a wide range of experimental and in silico operations and disciplines, and together represent an R&D continuum to build quality biomanufacturing processes for industrialization.

The main objective of COCULTURE project led by FARE will be to understand and decipher the mechanisms of a high-performance co-culture between a well-characterized fungal lignocellulolytic strain used in several biotechnological processes, in particular in the conversion of lignocellulose and a second bacterial member housing a large arsenal of lignocellulolytic enzymes but also capable of secreting natural compounds which will stimulate the activity of the main decomposer.

To do this, numerous transcriptomic and metabolomic analyzes (carried out in collaboration with the WU-UNLOCK platform) on different lignocellulose biomasses will be carried out in order to determine the different interactions and degradation mechanisms over-expressed in these co-cultures. This will make it possible to characterize and produce efficient lignocellulolytic enzyme cocktails of new metabolites of interest which will play the role of elicitor of fungi and can be used for other biotechnological processes.
