02 Decembre 2020 - Closure seminar for the Interreg ValBran project

The consortium of the Interreg ValBran project organised a webinar in order to disseminate its research results after 4 years of work on the theme of the valorisation of wheat bran into biosourced surfactants.

The Interreg Fr-W-Vl ValBran project brings together 9 French and Belgian partners (URCA, UPJV, IAR, ULg, VALBIOM, VITO, INAGRO, CATALISTI and GREENWIN) and is coordinated by Professor Caroline Rémond from UMR FARE.

The aim of the project is to fractionate and functionalise the cellulose and xylans in wheat bran by enzymatic catalysis in order to produce alkyl glycosides and sugar esters. These biosurfactants have applications in the cosmetics, detergents and phytosanitary sectors.

The main results concerning the development of biocatalytic pathways for the production of biosurfactants, the optimisation of production pathways and their scaling-up were presented by the URCA partners (FARE and ICMR) and by VITO. The University of Liège presented the study of the physico-chemical and biological properties of the biosurfactants synthesised during the project. The webinar ended with the testimony of two industrialists, ARD and SOPURA, who respectively produce and use surfactants.
