WE ARE HIRING - Post-doctoral Researcher Position

The main objective of this project is to develop a computational pipeline to analyze the plant cell wall deconstruction during enzymatic hydrolysis.

Context:
Transformation of lignocellulosic biomass (LB), which makes the architecture of plant cell walls, into
biofuels and bio-based products, as alternatives to fossil carbon-based products, should play an important
role in the mitigation of climate change.
However, plants are naturally recalcitrant to a controlled deconstruction which is a major step in their
valorisation. The plant cell wall recalcitrance hinders economical and sustainable transformation of their
constituents (cellulose, hemicelluloses, lignin). To achieve a cost-effective process, it is necessary to better
understand the underlying mechanisms of plant cell wall deconstruction.

Your mission:
This position is part of the launch of the national project FillingGaps (9 M€ budget) led by FARE laboratory
and founded by the French National Research Agency in the frame of the programme B-BEST. FillingGaps
aims to develop multiscale approaches, for representative biomass species, to establish relationships
between scales in order to highlight markers of biomass properties and reactivity. T
As a post-doctoral researcher, you will develop a computational pipeline to identify key structural
parameters underlying the recalcitrance using the 4D (space + time) data of LB deconstruction collected in
FARE laboratory and 4D (space + time) image processing tools developed at FARE laboratory. The pipeline
will be integrated into an image processing platform called BIOMODLAB. You may also be required to assist
in the supervision of student projects, provide instructions to students and deliver seminars relating to your
research area.
We offer an outstanding scientific and technical infrastructure (such as computing facilities of the ROMEO
HPC centre, state of art confocal microscope facility to collect datasets, etc), a highly motivated research
team, as well as an international and interdisciplinary working environment offering ideal conditions for
successfully conducting the research project.

Requirements:
Candidates should have a PhD in computer science, engineering, applied mathematics, or related fields.
Applicants should have good skills in the Python programming language. Experience in image processing
and computational modelling would also be advantageous. Good communication skills are essential as the successful candidate will need to work in an interdisciplinary team gathering different researchers and
write up their research work for presentation and publication.

Salary: around 2100 € (monthly take home, net, salary)

Duration: 2 years (possibility of extension)

Deadline: Open until filled

Application: Applicants should send a letter of motivation and a detailed CV, including the contact details
of at least two academic referees to :
